DW9052 is a great choice. It is a combination of quality and affordability rolled into one rugged watch that
is comfortable and sporty looking. You can't go wrong withthe Casio brand - they basically created the market
for these type watches. Casio watches like the Casio Pathfinder series and the Casio G Shock watches are designed
to take a beating and to be exposed to severe elements and still perfrom
admirably. You can buy the Casio DW9052 at Amazon and they usually include free shipping which is important when you are buying a product in this price range. It was the best deal at the time I was doing my research plus you know you aren’t going to have any hassles if you need to return the watch. There are also a ton of reviews on the Casio DW9052 if you want to see what other people think about this watch. Casio Pathfinder Watches are one of the best selling adventure watches in the market. What I liked about the Casio Dw9052 – My Top 10 List-(If you’re not in a hurry)Keeps Time Accurately This should be a given with most watches today, but it’s not always the case. You can expect an accuracy of between plus or minute 1.5 seconds per month from the Casio W9052. It doesn't have the self adjusting capability like the Casio atomic watches do like but still has very acceptable accuracy for a watch or timepiece in this price range. Mineral Watch Face – Good Option in this Price
Range Mineral - Like many low/mid prices sports watches the Casio DW9052 has a mineral watch face. The advantage of mineral, especially when you are buying a watch that is going to be subject to the rigors of being outdoors, is that it is relatively scratch resistant. Mineral is actually a type of glass that is more scratch resistant than acrylic, for example, but doesn't have the same scratch resistant qualities as some of the higher end faces like sapphire. A mineral glass face will scratch however and the scratches are difficult to buff out as you can sometimes do with acrylic. The plus side for mineral as compared to crystal is that a mineral watch face is less likely to shatter. So all in all, it's a good compromise for a sports watch in this price range. Water Resistant to 600 feet 200 Meter Water Resistant - the Casio DW 9052 is water resistant down to 200 meters or approximately 600 feet. The fact that this watch is "water resistant" doesn't mean that it is "waterproof" or that it is designed for the professional diver. This designation means that the watch was designed for ordinary daily use and is resistant to water during exercises such as swimming for a short period. Easy to Read Display – Especially at Night The digital display on the DW9052 has a digital presentation that is relatively easy to read under most conditions. Featuring a white dial face the watch displays Arabic numerals as well as a minute index. EL Backlight with Afterglow - One of the nice features about the DW9052 is the shift from the more standard indiglo style watches for night time illumination to green illumination which improves ease of visibility significantly. The "afterglow" is when the EL backlight continues to shine for a second or two even after you have pressed the light button. On some of the newer G-Shocks, you can adjust the backlight duration from as short as 1.5 seconds to as long as 5 seconds. This feature is different than the standard Indiglo which lights up when you press the button and turns off only when you let go of the button; you'd have to keep your finger on the button if you want to view the watch a little longer in the dark. The backlight duration adjustment is intended as a power-saving measure for the battery -- which is why this feature is only available on certain non-solar G-Shocks. Repeated use of the back light for night viewing with an extended duration can wear out the battery pretty quickly. Quartz Movement – Rugged and Accurate All digital watches have a quartz movement and the Dw9052 is no exception. Quartz movements have several advantages over mechanical movements in addition to being rugged they are more accurate, , they don't need to be wound (although they do need to have a battery or some other source of electrical power (solar), and in general they can be made thinner than watches with mechanical movements. Quartz movements are also relatively maintenance free ( you may have to change the battery) and it is the quartz movement that allows your watch to provide you with other options like calculating elapsed time, providing and tracking elevations, etc. Good Traditional Belt Buckle Style Clasp Clasp: Buckle - like a leather belt buckle, this traditional clasp is found on many leather and other non-metal straps. The traditional buckle clasp will ensure a snug fit around your wrist so even when you are outdoors an involved in sporting activities it's not going to come loose and fall off. Durable Resin Case - Survives A Lot of Wear and Tear A resin case means you aren't going to have the same durability that you will find with some of the other higher end Casio watches. Typically you will find that the point where one or both the watch band expansion "pins" meets the watch body will eventually fail. But again, in this price range, the resin case is an acceptable trade-off for a lower priced watch. Small Size for a Sports Watch The Casio DW9052 measures 46 millimeters in diameter so although this is certainly not a design that you would consider to be a dress watch, it is relatively small and men with smaller diameter wrists (6.5-7) inches won't look like too bulky on your arm. At 15 millimeters (case thickness) the DW9052 is not considered a low profile watch but it wasn't designed as a dress watch. Comfortable Sturdy Resin Band Band material: Casio's G-Shock series like the DW9052 features a resin band that tends to extremely durable. Not all resin bands are made from the same components but Casio seems to have the right formula for durability. The resin band is relatively soft and thin which allows it to forms around your wrist and fit comfortably. I have worn other watches with resin straps that were not nearly as comfortable on my wrist. The band is 25 millimeters so if you have a thicker wrist you may want to make sure that the band will be long enough to comfortably fit. Preprogrammed Calendar Calendar: The DW9052 day-date-and-month that comes preprogrammed until the year 2039, so remember in 2040, you have to make some adjustments.
