Casio Men's PAW2000-1CR - New Series Slim Design

What I liked about the PAW2000-1CR – Summary

Casio Men's PAW2000

- New slim design is an excellent replacement for the PAW1300 Series
- Great functionality - triple sensor technology - accurate
- Easy to read display due to duplexed LCD displays - 2 separate LCD's
- Multiband technology - multiple sources of atomic updates
- Great quality, functionality and looks for reasonable price

What I didn’t like:

Atomic updates can be a little hit and miss, depends on where you are locate and what the weather is like and where you liver. On the plus side you can trigger a manual update.

Casio Men's PAW2000-1CR - Bottom Line:

If you are on shopping for a successor to your old PAW1300 with a slim design the PAW2000 is the logical choice. The PAW2000 features Casio's famous "triple sensor" technology that provides and processes data on barometric pressure, an altimeter that measures altitude from 2300 feet to over 30,000 feet, and a thermometer to monitor temperature conditions. Of course the Casio PAW 2000 has other bells and whistles like a compass, sunrise and sunset tracking capability and stopwatch options with all kinds of data available. If you are looking for a fully optioned watch in the Casio Pathfinder watch series, solar powered and atomic time signals as well, this watch is a great choice at a very competitive price.

You can find the Casio PAW2000-1CR at Amazon and remember when comparing prices they usually include free shipping. Amazon almost always seem to have the best deal no matter what specific type of Casio Pathfinder or Casio G-Shock I was researching. If you are interested in more reviews there are a number of good ones that you can read at Amazon that will pretty much reflect my opinion of the watch. Watches from Casio in the outdoor series like the Casio Atomic Solar Pathfinder and Casio G-Shock provide great value and reliability for you money. The Pathfinder Casio chronographs are hard to beat when you are shopping for a digital watch.

Casio PAW2000-1CR – My Top 7 Favorite Features:

Small Size - Easy to Reach Functionality

If you are considering the PAW2000 then high on your "wish" list is probably a watch with a small or slim profile, a Casio Pathfinder that doesn't like you're wearing a hockey puck on your wrist. At just 11.5mm thick the PAW2000 follows in the tradition of its predecessor the PAW1300. It' amazing how much technology Casio can put into such a small space. Not only do you have the basic quartz movement itself, but for the Casio solar pathfinder watch you have a "solar panel" and on this watch you also have 2 lcd screens. Another design idea I like is the plastic guards around the buttons/pushers that help eliminate inadvertent pushes - this nicety does make it a little harder to push the buttons so it's a trade-off.

Japanese Quartz Movement – Without a quartz movement it would be impossible for all the great Casio watches to have the slim designs, accuracy and amazing set if functions that are offered from options like great Casio solar powered watch to an atomic Casio that can auto calibrate itself to a world standard. The quartz movement in the PAW2000 takes advantage of all these capabilities that provide outstanding functionality, precision timekeeping and rugged performance.

Casio Atomic Watch - Keeps Time Accurately

The basics - This Casio PAW2000 atomic watch uses a calibration time signal from Germany, England, United States, Japan and China - hence the designation "multi-band" that the watch automatically monitors each day and recalibrates the time signal to provide micro-second precision. The PAW2000 will actually calibrate itself six times a day, or at least attempt to, assuming the signal reception is strong enough. So accuracy in this case is measured in microseconds per day, and it's corrected every day. The PAAW2000 has a few advanced capabilities and features that we like and would love to see in some of the other Pathfinder series. First - the calibration has both an automatic and a manual mode - so you can recalibrate whenever you like. Second, the PAW2000 seems to have improved reception capability as compared to the PAW1300. On the older style watches you either needed to be outside or close to a window to ensure sufficient strength to allow your watch to recalibrate - the PAW2000 Atomic does a better job. You can imagine how small the antenna has to be inside any Casio atomic watch - so reception is not an easy task. The engineers at Casio continually refine the Casio Pathfinder Watches until the create just the watch we need.

Casio Atomic Solar Watch - the PAW has Two of My Favorite Features

The ability to self-calibrate and the solar power eliminates the requirement for a battery. The PAW2000 has an energy saving more that it goes into whenever if you aren't wearing it and it has no source of light - this helps to minimize the power use. This is one of the best engineered Casio solar watches and it is able to charge with very little ambient light.

Water Resistant to 330 feet

Water Resistant the Casio PAW2000 is water resistant to 100 meters or about 330 feet. "Water resistant" isn't the same thing as "waterproof" The fact that this watch is "water resistant" doesn't mean that it is "waterproof" or that it is designed for the professional diver. Watches today are marked as water resistant up to a certain capacity and can also be said as water proof. So what is this difference?

As a result of new ISO standards The "Water Resistant" designation has come to replace the "Water Proof". Now if your watch is water resistant, it is water proof to a certain extent. Actually both the marks mean the same thing to some extent. A water resistant watch is equivalent to water proof to a certain extent. This can be summarized with some figures:

Watches are usually marked with one of the following ratings:

•30 Meters/100 Feet
•50 Meters/160 Feet
•100 Meters/300 Feet
•150 Meters/500 Feet
•200 Meters/660 Feet
•1000 Meters/3300 Feet

These however, do not generally indicate the point at which a watch's resistance to pressure is expected to fail. For example, a watch rated 30 Meters would not be expected to survive Scuba Diving to 30 Meters, but would be expected to survive light splashing, for example wearing in the shower.

Casio Pathfinder PAW2000 - Ergonomic Design - Light and Comfortable

 Casio Pathfinder PAW2000

Compared to many sports or outdoor watches the Casio PAW2000 is pretty light and very comfortable. The combination of the resin strap and the steel and plastic case make for a surprisingly light watch. But more important to me is how comfortable the watch feels on my harm. I have worn lighter watches that didn't have the same ergonomic sophistication in the case design and they weren't nearly as comfortable.

Although the back of the watch is flat the sides of the case are actually curved, which you can esily see in this picture. The curved sides allow the watch to conform more naturally to the curvature of your wrist and fit not only more comfortably but more snugly as well.

This design is perfect for a sports or outdoor watch that is expected to get tugged on and knocked around from time to time and still remain on your wrist.

Casio PAW2000 Digital Display - Auto Illumination

The digital display on the PAW2000-1CR has a digital presentation that is relatively easy to read under most conditions. Featuring a white dial face the watch displays Arabic numerals as well as a minute index. But my favorite thing about the display is the new auto-illumination feature. I am an avid fisherman and frequently fish at night or in the early morning when there is little if any light. I can tell you it is a bit of a pain to try to hold a fishing rod in one hand and with that same hand press a button on your watch to make the illumination turn on. The PAW2000 has solved that problem. Now when you tilt your wrist up as if you are going to check the time the watch face automatically becomes illumuinated - yahoo. Of course, you may not want this feature or you may just want to use it occasionally, so Casio has made it an option that you can turn off and on.
